For those of you with better stamps, and a little more time on your hands, you should try my consignment service. You mount your good stamps on my approval sheets (coloured yellow, blue or pink to distinguish them from my regular white approval sheets). The blue sheets have to be priced no higher than the percentage of Scott's catalogue value listed in the Demand List. You can price the yellow and pink sheets at whatever you think is fair. When you sell stamps from yellow sheets, you receive 80% of the selling price in credit against my approvals. When you sell stamps from pink sheets, you receive 100% of the selling price in credit against my approvals. Blue sheets are credited IMMEDIATELY to your trading account at 70% of the net selling price. Any stamps may be mounted on yellow or blue sheets (except for very inexpensive stamps), but only stamps with a Z or $ designation on the Demand List may be mounted on pink sheets.
I have some customers that really love this service, but some of you may think you get a better deal elsewhere, mostly with circuits that only charge a 10% commission. Before you start thinking these things, please make these comparisons with the other services.
First, I pay the outgoing postage to send approvals to you. Most other services like mine ask that you pay postage both ways.
Second, many services demand that you fill a sheet or book with stamps from one country, or a related area, and have a high minimum. I ask that you fill only one sheet with stamps from one country or one related area, with no minimum.
Third, many circuits ask that you use catalogue values. That means your good material goes quickly and the overcatalogued material doesn't move at all. I base my exchange on net prices.
Fourth, most circuits that use net pricing ask that you price your material at a fraction of catalogue. I encourage good prices for good stamps, and you can get full Scott's catalogue value, or even more, for better items.
Fifth, some circuits charge for circuit books, or ask you to use expensive closed acetate mounts for mint material, or both. I charge 8 cents for an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet (you can even print your own), and you can use cheaper open mounts, or even glassine envelopes.
Sixth, I don't limit your choice to material that other people have submitted. You have full access to my stock and all my other services. You can even convert credit balances to cash at 80% (this takes 12-18 months).
Seventh, although I will not credit your until I retire your sheets, you can at any time ask for an advance so that you may purchase approvals. I will then apply your future sales towards your advance. (Please note that you cannot use your advances for the Mint Canada, Topical and Want List services.)
Eighth, most North American circuits demand that you use the Scott's catalogue for identification. You do not have to identify stamps on my sheet, and the catalogue you use would be acceptable in any case.
In any case, you can choose from stamps submitted from my customers without submitting stamps yourself. If you are interested in submitting stamps, please write for the rules and a free sheet for mounting stamps.
For people with premium stamps, here is a way to convert your better material to cash. This service operates just like my consignment for credit service above. The only differences are that you mount stamps on green sheets, the commission is 30% and I pay the proceeds in cash. I also charge for postage and bank fees incurred in payment. However, I limit this service to material that is much in demand. I spend a lot of money filling my customers' needs, and I don't mind spending it with my customers. Moreover, unlike other cash paying services, I encourage people to price their stamps at what the market will bear, and it is not unusual to charge full catalogue price, or even more. Only stamps with a $ designation on the Demand List may be sent in for consignment on green sheets for cash.
